Alan C. Bowers, a long-time resident of Melrose, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, April 5, 2025. He was 58.
Born on October 12, 1966, in Brighton, Alan was one of five children of the late William C. and Janice M. (Lane) Bowers, Sr. Alan grew up in Tewksbury and Salem, New Hampshire, where he made countless memories and lifelong friends - many of whom he met during his cherished summers at Wyman's Beach in Westford, MA.
After graduating from Salem High School, Alan joined the workforce, starting with the Teamsters in Medford before finding his true calling as a Union Representative for UFCW #791. He poured his heart into the job, believing deeply in the spirit of solidarity and treating his union brothers and sisters as family.
Above all, Alan was a family man. He met and later married his beloved Susan, and they went on to share many wonderful years of love and adventure.
He was a hands-on husband and father, never missing a family function or an event for his children. His selflessness and unwavering commitment to his family will be dearly missed by all.
Outside of his family and work, Alan enjoyed the rugged beauty of New England, especially Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. He had a love of deep-sea fishing and listening to many genres of music.
Alan's passion for sports was evident from a young age. Whether it was wrestling, hockey, or softball, he loved the thrill of competition. He cherished coaching softball, especially when his daughter Shaylin played, passing on his love of the game and building priceless memories along the way. He was a true Boston sports enthusiast
In the spirit of Alan's legacy, let us remember the importance of family, friendship, and community.
Alan was the beloved husband of Susan L. (Leite) Bowers with whom he shared 18 years of marriage. Devoted father of Shaylin M. Bowers and Samantha L. Donovan both of Malden. Loving brother of Janice Bowers of Lawrence, Robert Bowers and wife Gayle of Tewksbury, Sean Bowers and wife Sandy of Lowell, and the late William C. Bowers, Jr., and his surviving wife Anne. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather in honor of Alan's life during Visiting Hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, on Thursday, April 10 from 4-8pm, and again on Friday for his Funeral Service at 10am. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
