Mr. Albert G. "Al" Adam, a resident of Wakefield since 1957, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at the Pilgrim Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Peabody.He was 85 years old.
Albert was born in Fall River on May 5, 1925, one of two children of the late Ernest L. Adam and Mae (Holden) Adam.
Mr. Adam was raised and educated in Fall River.He served his country in the US Army Air Corps during World War II as a pilot.An avid sailor, Al worked for a boat builder for several years.His prize possession was his sailboat which he built with his late father.Many summer days were spent with his family sailing in and around the Salem Harbor area.
Al worked as an analyst for General Electric, retiring after 35 years.He was a member of the Salem Willows Yacht Club and the Green Street Baptist Church.A capable man with his hands, Al enjoyed gardening and building birdhouses and bug boxes.
Albert or "Al" as he was lovingly known was the beloved husband of the late Betty (McCarthy) Adam with whom he shared 45 years of marriage. Devoted father of his son, Robert W. Adam and his wife Kathy of Peabody, and his daughter, Gail E. Lima of Haverhill.Also survived by Evelyn Drago of Peabody.Dear brother of the late Virginia Bredberg.Cherished grandfather of William Adam, Kevin Adam, Brian Adam, Robert Adam Jr., and Nicholas Corcione.Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral Service at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Monday, January 3 at 1:00 PM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Visitation on Monday from 12:00 - 1:00 PM.Interment in Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.Gifts in Al's memory may be made to the Lahey Clinic Oncology Dept., 41 Mall Rd.
