Alfred J. Kilduff, a resident of Bradford and formerly of Melrose, passed away beside his dearly beloved wife on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at age 71.
Born in Boston on June 4, 1952, Al was the son of the late Paul and Marie (Muise) Kilduff. He was raised in East Boston, and graduated from Boston Latin School. At age 18, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served four years before receiving an honorable discharge. Al worked as a postal clerk for 42 years for the United States Postal Service at GMF in Boston.
Al would tell you that he was blessed to find the love of his life, Roberta “Bobbi”, while at work. They settled in Melrose and Al committed himself to being the best husband, and father he could be. When his children were young, he was a constant presence at their games, recitals, and faithfully recorded all of them on video. With an effortless example, Al instilled hard work, loyalty, and unconditional love in his three children simply by living his life.
Al was proud of his Irish heritage which he held close to his heart. While living in Texas in his youth, he developed an affinity for the Dallas Cowboys, and for some reason, the New York Yankees. He maintained a love for the Boston Celtics through his season tickets for many years at the old Boston Garden. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball, and with a large record collection, always loved classic rock.
After moving to Bradford, Al’s life was enriched with his backyard or his “little slice of heaven” where he could appreciate his natural surroundings. He loved watching the hummingbirds, enjoyed watching the wildlife, or simply enjoying a glass of Pepsi in peace.
Al was solid, a rock for many, and a source of strength for all. With his tough exterior, he often was mistaken for unapproachable, but his heart of gold quickly showed through. He will be remembered for his selfless nature, nurturing heart, and his unconditional love for his children. He will be deeply missed, but his commitment for family will carry on in the hearts and minds of his wife, children and grandchildren. May the road rise to meet him.
Al was the beloved husband of Roberta “Bobbi” Kilduff with whom he shared 43 years together. Devoted father of Jason Howes of RI, Jarrod Howes and his wife Noelle of Wakefield, and Jenalyn Howes of Winchester. Cherished “Bampa” to Enzo Grimmo and Jeremy Howes. Loving brother-in-law of Anne E. Bentley of Melrose, Sandra DiMauro of Melrose, and uncle of Sandra “Sandy” DiMauro of Melrose. Also survived by dear friend, Dan DesOrmeaux of Haverhill. Al also leaves his dear cat, Nellie.
