Mrs. Alice A. (Watson) Planta, a long-time resident of Melrose, died Wednesday evening, June 11, 2008 in the Kindred Hospital Boston North Shore in Peabody, MA.She was 86 years old.
Alice was born October 2, 1921 in Amherst, OH, a daughter of the late Don K. Watson and Alice Grace (Peabody) Watson.
Mrs. Planta was a 1939 graduate of Wakeman High School, Wakeman, OH.She also graduated from Defiance College, Defiance, OH, Class of 1944.She earned her Masters Degree from Salem State College, Salem, MA and received her Masters plus 30 in Education from Salem State College in 1969.She retired in 1986 after 28 years of teaching 8th grade science at the Galvin Jr. High School in Wakefield.She was a member of the American Association of University Women - Melrose-Wakefield Area Branch, a 66 year member of the Monroeville, OH Order of Eastern Star Althea Chapter #438 and a member of the Melrose Highlands Congregational Church.
Alice was the loving wife of Wesley E. Planta with whom she shared 62 years of marriage.Devoted mother of Dona-Kay Carr and her husband, Donald P. Carr, Jr..Sister of Dennis H. Watson and his wife, Catherine of Madison, OH.Cherished grandmother of Donald P. Carr, III and Brian W. Carr. Also survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
