Mrs. Alice (Smith) Pomfret of Melrose, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at Wingate of Andover surrounded by her loving family.She was 97 years old.Alice was born August 1, 1911 in Quincy, one of five children to the late Frank A. Smith and Cora M. (Nickerson) Smith.Mrs. Pomfret was raised in Woburn and graduated from Woburn High School.In her working career, she was a bookkeeper for the First National Bank of Boston.Alice had lived in Melrose since 1941 and was a longtime member of the Unitarian Universalist Church.She enjoyed sewing and crafts.Mrs. Alice Pomfret was the beloved wife of the late Earl F. Pomfret with whom she shared 57 years of marriage.Loving mother of Elizabeth A. "Liz" Moseley and her husband Philip B. of Stow, Ruth A. Bourget of Clinton and her late husband Charles L., and Jane L. Goldstein and her husband Stuart of N. Andover.Dear sister of the late Francis Smith, Marjorie Johnson, Marion Gregorie and Barbara Cannell.Cherished grandmother of Scott E. Moseley, Kathryn J. Zolla, Heather S. Mahall, Andrew C. Bourget, Douglas N. Bourget, Joel D. Goldstein and Caryl B. Sindoni.Loving great grandmother of Fiona, Keegan, Kimberly, Gregory, Jennifer, Andrew, Evan , Nathan, Emma, Madelyn, and Adam.The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the staff at Wingate of Andover for the wonderful care they showed to Alice during her stay.
Funeral Service at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE, Wednesday, July 22 at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
