Mrs. Allene H. (McKinnon) Irvin, of Everett, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, April 13, 2013 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, at the age of 81.
Allene was born on February 8, 1932 in Boston, one of eight children of the late Lawrence J. McKinnon and Grace (Abbott) McKinnon.She was raised in Wilmington and graduated from Wilmington High School.At age 16, she married Joseph F. Irvin and they settled in Malden to raise a family.
Allene's interests were simple; she loved her family, and children. She worked as a Nurse's Aide for 18 years at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.After moving to Everett, she volunteered at Whidden Memorial Hospital as a greeter and switchboard operator.She also became active as a volunteer at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston.
She will be remembered as the beloved wife of Joseph F. Irvin with whom she shared 64 years of marriage.Devoted mother of Darlene DePasquale, Valerie Master, Lisa Beth Reynolds and her husband James F. of Bradford, and the late Marilyn Irvin.Dear sister of Joan Kinnon of Malden, Lorraine DeCosta of S. Carolina, Jeannette Sheehan of Melrose, Lawrence J. McKinnon of FL, and the late Barbara Lawson, Dorothy Felony, and Elizabeth Gardner.Cherished grandmother of Christopher Berthiaume, Adam Berthiaume, Jon David Berthiaume, Stephen Berthiaume, Nico DePasquale, John M. Lagorio, Jr., Molly Master, and Emily DaSilva.Loving great-grandmother of Brandon, Kyle, Nathan, and Abigail.Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will honor and remember Allene's life by gathering during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Wednesday, April 17 from 9-10AM, followed by a Graveside Service at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 12:45 PM.
