Al Hemenway, a retired telegrapher for the Boston & Maine Railroad died after a brief illness at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston Friday October 1, 2004.
Al was born in Woburn, September 25, 1924, son of the late EarlL. Hemenway and Alice (Mallory) Hemenway.
Al retired from the Boston & Maine Railroad after 44 years of service and for many years he was a clerk at the Digital Federal Credit Union.Al was a member of the Baldwin Squares Dance Club, the First Baptist Church, Melrose where he served as treasurer and he attended the Barry class on a regular basis. Al graduated from Somerville High School, 1942 and he served in the Army Radio Corp during WW II in Burma. Al was the devoted husband of Norma R. (Deschenes) Hemenway.Loving father of CynthiaA. of Stoneham, Allen B. of Everett, DeborahGibson and her husband Charles of Falls Church, VA.,Philip and his wife Debra of Ann Arbor, MI, Mark R of Melrose, Lisa Hodge and her husband Michael of Wilmington, Andrea Lynch and her husband John of Holliston and BarbaraWright of Melrose. Brother of the late Earl,Robert and Clarice Camden. Grandfather of Christie, Sarah andJanelleHodge all of Wilmington, Ashley and Bethany Wright both of Holiday, FL, Allison and Ryan Lynch both of Holliston and CeceliaHemenway of Melrose. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service at the First Baptist Church, 561 Main St., Melrose Wednesday October 6 at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St. MELROSE Tuesday 4-8 PM. Interment will be in St. Columban's Cemetery, Arlington, VT on Thursday morning October 7, 2004.
