Angelo J. Morello

Angelo J. Morello, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2024, at Phillips Manor Nursing Home in Lynn, at age 95.

Angelo was born on January 17, 1929, to Lena J. Morello (Comella) and John G. Morello. He was raised in Everett, MA, along with his sister, Anne. After high school, Angelo joined the Navy and served on the USS Nipmuc. He married Geraldine C. Morello (Tieso) in 1952, and they settled in Melrose to raise their family of six children. Angelo retired from Lawrence Packaging, after spending his entire career there as Quality Control Manager.

Angelo was the ultimate family man. Family was cherished and treasured – both his immediate and well-extended family. Angelo was dedicated to his parents, who lived in the same house as he and Gerri. Most Sunday afternoons, Angelo, Gerri, and the children, got in the station wagon and went to Mattapan, where all of Gerri’s siblings and their families gathered together for lunch.

As Angelo and Gerri’s young family grew, Angelo volunteered at St. Mary’s Church, where his quiet leadership and commitment to faith led him to be President of the yearly fundraiser “Thousand Club” for many years.

Angelo and Gerri’s house was a gathering place for their “Cousins Club” a group of cousins that stayed together from before some of them married until late in life. Many laughs and endless card games created fond memories that Angelo would reminisce about.

Angelo’s legacy includes his much-loved hobby of growing roses. After work or on a weekend, Angelo could be found in the garden, with Gerri and one or more of his children, tending roses. His other hobbies included bowling, following local sports teams and going to a good old-fashioned parade.

Angelo’s love for his family was apparent to all and his smile was the broadest when everyone was gathered around the table. Holidays and special occasions were looked forward to, even more so after grandchildren came along. Angelo welcomed anyone who stopped by and would always offer them something to eat and drink. A favorite memory of when Angelo was in the Phillips Manor is how he would offer a cup of coffee to the doctor who was making his rounds.

Later in life, Angelo spent happy years as the passenger in all of his children’s, son’s-in-law and grandchildren’s cars. Especially delightful for Angelo during those years was the rekindled time with his sister Anne, and her husband Tom. They drove Angelo everywhere. Lunches, to the VA and sometimes just out for a drive.

Angelo was preceded in death by the love of his life and to whom he always deferred, Geraldine C. Morello (Tieso), his wife of 71 years.

Angelo will be forever remembered by his sister Anne Kelly and her husband Thomas of Tewksbury. Angelo leaves loving memories in the hearts of his children, Cissy Perry and her husband Glenn of Lynnfield, Carol Prince and her husband Jerry of Parkton, MD, Susan Dolan and her husband Gregory of Quincy, John Morello and his partner Barbara Frazier of Winthrop, Angel Rogalski and her husband John of Gloucester, and Annette MacPherson and her husband Paul of Hudson, NH. Loving grandfather of Emily Kirkwood and her husband Joe, Matthew Perry, Lindsey Perry, Benjamin Prince and his wife Katie, Alexander Dolan, Gabriella Whittier, Mark Prince, David Prince, Francesca Barry and her husband Shane, Nicholas Dolan, and great-grandchildren, Peter Kirkwood and Alexandra Barry.

The family thanks Phillips Manor for their wonderful care of Gerri and Angelo and the extra TLC given to Angelo when he needed it most.
