Anna T. (Griffith) Fantasia, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center on Thursday, October 15, 2020, at age 88.
Anna was born on April 1, 1932, one of three daughters of the late Harold and Mary Griffith. Raised and educated in Malden, she was married to Manuel E. Fantasia and bought their first and only home together in Melrose to raise a family of four children.
Anna, with her expert penmanship, worked as a bookkeeper for several years. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting, crochet, and sewing. She was an avid swimmer, ice skater, and longtime member of the Melrose YMCA.
Anna also had a green thumb, loved plants and gardening. Later in life, she cherished time spent with her grandchildren, especially helping to take care of her youngest grandson, Alex. A kind and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, she will be deeply missed by her family.
Anna was the beloved wife of the late Manuel E. "Manny" Fantasia with whom she shared 55 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Michael H. Fantasia and his wife Maryellen of Burlington, John S. Fantasia and his wife Martha of Farmington, NH, and the late Thomas E. Fantasia and his surviving wife Janet of Milton, and the late Gina F. Kapilian and her surviving husband David of Sherborn. Caring sister of the late Patricia Haynes and her surviving husband Fred of VA, and the late Evelyn Underhill and her late husband Bob. Loving grandmother of Michael Fantasia, Kristen Taylor and her husband Evan, Daniel Fantasia and his wife Stacey, Maryanne Anderson and her husband Dave, Michael Fantasia and his wife Nicole, and Marissa Griecci and her husband Michael. Proud great-grandmother of JD, Nathan, Sandra, Samantha, and Zachary.
Relatives & friends are invited to gather in honor of Anna's life for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, Oct. 22 from 3-6pm, and again for her Funeral Service on Friday at 10:30am. Masks are required and social distancing will be maintained.Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
