Mrs. Anne M. (Sullivan) MacGillivray, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away suddenly at home on Monday, December 19, 2011, at the age of 84.
Anne was born in Boston on August 27, 1927, one of four daughters of the late James H. and Margaret E. (Mahoney) Sullivan.She was raised and educated in Boston where she graduated from Rosemary Academy in Boston.She worked in sales at Gilchrists in Medford, and at Lloyd's, Diamond, and Gold Jewelry.She also was a sales correspondent at Lechmere corporate headquarters in Woburn.
Anne was a passionate supporter for seniors and the disabled for many years. She spent much of her time advocating for better treatment of the handicapped and for the elderly.For her efforts she received numerous awards and commendations acknowledging her tireless work.Anne was a member of the Silver Legislature in which she accomplished many of her goals for seniors.She also was a member of the Melrose Council on Aging.
Anne was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Melrose.She loved her two Lhasapso dogs, Muffin and Joy and took them everywhere she went.She also was anavid line dancer and taught line dancing lessons at the Melrose Senior Center for 18 years.
She was the beloved wife of the late Martin "Ronnie" MacGillivray with whom she shared 44 years of marriage.Devoted mother of Leo J. MacGillivray and his wife Jane Eppers of Lynn.Dear sister of Ruth Yennaco of Woburn, Irene Pinkham of Peabody, and the late Margaret Collins.Dear grandmother of Christine Iannou and her husband Arthur of Lynn, Daniel MacGillivray of Lynn, Joshua MacGillivray, USMC and his wife Anastasia of San Diego, CA, Kate Eppers of Salem, and Jesse Eppers of Lynn.Loving great grandmother of Alex, Varvara, and Ayla.Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will gather to remember and celebrate Anne's life on Thursday, December 22 for visiting hours from 4-8 PM at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St, Melrose and again on Friday morning at the First Baptist Church, 561 Main St., Melrose where her Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10 AM. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
