Mrs. Annie "Anne" V. (Chapman) Mumford, a longtime resident of Melrose, and formerly of Lynn, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Wilmington Health Care Center.
She was born and raised in Lynn, the daughter of the late John F. Chapman and Bertha I. (Einser) Chapman.She married Robert Mumford and they settled in Melrose Highlands to raise a family.At the young age of 47, she became a widow but with a strong will and deeply rooted values, she persevered.Anne worked for 35 years as a legal secretary for Demakis Law Offices of Lynn and cherished her 2 children, 5 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
Independent and with a strong work ethic, Anne led by example.She was proud of her Yankee heritage, devoted to her Church, and loved her family.She attended the First United Methodist Church every Sunday for many years.For decades, she was very involved with the Order of the Eastern Star as a past matron of honor and had made many trips to connect with members and friends throughout the area.Anne was giving of herself to her family, and loved watching her children, and grandchildren grow.She enjoyed genealogy and tracked her family tree back several generations.
Anne loved travelling to York Beach every summer to the same cottage near the beach.She had an appreciation for Maine; including lobster rolls, ice cream cones, and Nubble Light.
In her spare time, Anne loved shopping, doing puzzles and reading Romance and History novels.She enjoyed family vacations with her children up to the New Hampshire Lakes region for many years.Her favorite hobby was doing arts and crafts, and enjoyed many years of membership in the Melrose Arts and Crafts Society. She loved chocolate, being patriotic, and had numerous beloved dogs.
Anne was the beloved wife of the late Robert A. Mumford with whom she shared 24 years of marriage.Devoted mother of Richard A. "Rick" Mumford and his wife Marie of Red Bank, NJ, and Diane McGovern of N. Andover.Cherished grandmother of Robert Mumford and his wife Rebecca of Red Bank, NJ, Suzanne Mumford of San Francisco, CA, Daniel Mumford of Weehawken, NJ, Julie Hartshorn of N. Andover, and Jay McGovern of Salem.Loving great-grandmother of Ryan, Robbie, Lexi, and Danny.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Anne's life at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Wednesday, December 18 from 9-11AM, followed by her Funeral Service celebrated at 11 AM.Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.Gifts in Anne's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
