Mr. Anthony J. "Tony" Hurley of Melrose formerly of Revere died Saturday, July 17, 2004 at home after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, March 11, 1924, son of the late Anthony Hurley and Nellie (Donovan) Hurley. He was a resident of Melrose for 34 years previously residing in Revere. Tony was a graduate of Immaculate Conception in Revere and attended Wentworth Institute and studied Civil Engineering. Tony was a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service working in Revere for 36 Years until his retirement in 1980. He was a WW II and Korean War veteran. He was a communicant of the Church of the Incarnation, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 179 Revere. He also enjoyed his dogs. Tony was a long time Bruins and Red Sox fan. He enjoyed many trips to Ireland to visit his family. Tony was the husband of Josephine A. (Rowan) Hurley with whom he shared 35 years of marriage. Father of Michael S. Hurley and his friend Marisa Santos of Revere, Patricia A. Varnum and her husband Mark of Garner, NC, Anthony L. Hurley and his wife Julie of Georgetown. Brother of Paul M. Hurley of Revere and the late Katherine McCann and Joseph Hurley. Also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews in Ireland and New England.
