Mr. Anthony P. Salamanca, a Melrose resident and formerly of East Boston, passed away on Sunday, July 12th, 2009 surrounded by his loving family at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.He was 74 years old.Anthony P. Salamanca was born in Boston on September 22, 1934.He graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in East Boston, Lowell Tech and received his master's degree from Tufts School of Engineering.For 35 years, Mr. Salamanca was a Civil Engineer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Highway Department.Tony served on the City of Melrose Board of Alderman for 20 years, serving as President 3 times.He was past president of the Melrose Sons of Italy, a member of the Massachusetts Organization of State Engineers and Scientists, the Melrose Conservation Commission, Melrose Pasta Club, Jeffries Point Reunion Club, St. Agrippina Society, and was active with CYO sports at Incarnation Parish.Tony was an avid Red Sox fan and sportsman as he enjoyed being a fan of many sports.Anthony wasthe beloved son of the late Paolo Salamanca and Marianna (Bellino) Salamanca.Beloved husband of the late Marie J. (Pasqua) Salamanca with whom he shared 48 years of marriage.Loving father of Paul E. and his wife Cynthia of Lexington, KY;Maria C. Reid and her husband Ken S. of Salem; Lisa P. Kaplan and her husband Michael of S. Berwick, ME; John P. and his wife Josie of Danvers and Anthony J. and his wife Jennifer of Meredith, NH.Dear brother of Anna Leo of East Boston and the late Nunny, Peter and Gracie Salamanca and Mary Santangelo.Cherished grandfather of Jean Ellen, John, Emily, Elizabeth, Cara, Marisa, Ariel, Toni Marie, Stephen, Sandra, Gina, Anthony, Juliana and Noah.Also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral from the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE, on Friday, July 17 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass in honor and remembrance of Tony in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Visiting hours Thursday from 3 - 8 PM.Interment will be in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.Gifts in Anthony's honor may be made to Melrose Sons of Italy, c/o Susan Cinella, 41 Appleton St., Melrose 02176.
