Mr. Armand E. Guptill, 82, of North Andover and formerly a long time resident of Melrose, died at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston Friday February 14 following a lengthy illness.
Armand was born October 22, 1931 in Holyoke one of two children of the late Edward E. Guptill and Helen E. (Lefave) Guptill.He was raised in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School, class of 1949.He was a US Navy veteran serving on the USS Barton 722, Destroyer during the Korean War.
Following his honorable discharge he took night courses at Northeastern University. Armand worked with Electric Nyes Chemical Company in Burlington also for Cabot Wire & Cable Company of Watertown and Billerica.He retired as a process engineer from Brand-Rex Company in Connecticut.
Armand excelled in running track during his years at Melrose High School.He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox as well as the New England Patriots. Armand was a handy man at home, wallpapering, and assembling kitchen cabinets. He had many memorable nights out with his beloved wife Ethel at the LongHorne Steakhouse in Reading
Armand was the beloved husband of Ethel M. (Acker) Guptill with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.Devoted father of Sue Anne Guptill of Readville and William E. Guptill MD and his wife Ruth of Taunton. Brother of Joan Rose of Dublin, OH. Also survived by a long time family friend, Bill Keefe of Haverhill.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Armand's life at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose during visiting hours on Tuesday, February 18 from 4-8 PM, and for his Funeral Service at the Robinson Funeral Home celebrated on Wednesday at 12:30 PM. Services will conclude with US Navy honors in WyomingCemetery, Melrose.
