Arnold C. Wilson, long time Melrose resident, died Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Chestnut Woods in Saugus with his family by his side.He was 87.
Arnold was born on May 31, 1931 in Malden, to the late Swedish immigrants Henry and Anna (Johnson) Wilson. Arnold served in the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict.He was married to Barbara J. (Ogilvie) Wilson for 46 years until her death in 1999.
Arnold was a sheet metal worker and proud member of Local #17 for many years before his retirement.
He was also a member of the Lt. Norman Prince VFW Post #1506 in Melrose, and the Malden Moose. Arnold enjoyed being active in his community, and coached a number of little league teams, as well as youth hockey.Golfing and fly fishing were favorite pastimes as well as traveling in their motor home, and he always looked forward to trips to Scandinavia as a proud his Swedish heritage.
Family was most important to Arnold.He and Barbara went everywhere together, and the family always looked forward to holiday get togethers.
In addition to his wife, Barbara he is predeceased by his siblings, Roy, Herbert and Edgar Wilson and Gertrude Andren.
He leaves his children Donna J. Pietropaolo (Peter) of Medford, Terri A. Howe (Joseph) of Melrose, Eric B. Wilson (Anne) of Melrose; his grandchildren, Lee A. Ames (Timothy), George J. Bernard IV, Christopher and Maria Wilson;his great-grandchildren Casey & Charlie Ames; his sister-in-law Mildred Wilson of Iowa; nieces & nephews.
Relatives & friends will gather in honor of Arnold's during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Friday, August 31st from 9:30 a.m - 11 a.m followed by his Funeral Service celebrated at 11am. Burial with military honors will follow in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
