Mr. Arthur E. Bud' Alton, of Melrose, died peacefully at home on Saturday, August 8, 2009 following a lengthy, hard fought battle with Mesothelioma. He was 68.
Arthur was born on October 30, 1940 in Chelsea, a son of the late Arthur E. Alton II and Florence Pat' (Cook) Alton. He lived over 38 years in Melrose. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy and worked as a boiler tender.
His civilian career included years working within the ship building industry as a machinist and with the U.S. Coast Guard as a mechanic and crane operator.
Bud was a member of the Wyoming Lodge of Masons.
Following his retirement Bud, his wife and beloved dog Ben enjoyed numerous adventures traveling throughout the country in their R.V.
He leaves his wife of nearly 40 years, Carole Lynn (Sundberg) Alton; his children, Pamela J. Donovan mother of his cherished grandchildren Bailey D. Alton and Matthew J. Donovan of Warner Robins, Georgia, Sandra L. Alton and her spouse, Daniel J. O'Donoghue of Newton and Mark D. Alton and his wife, Elizabeth Hooper of Melrose. Dear brother of Carole A. Alton, Jeanne Toms, Elizabeth "Betty" Holt, Marjorie Vargas, Phillip R. Alton, the late Patricia Jefferson and their families, as well as his beloved dog, Benjamin.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 13 at 11 AM in The Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main Street, Melrose.Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend.Visiting hours on Wednesday, August 12 from 4 - 8 PM.Interment in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge will be private. It was Arthur's wish that memorials be made to The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226.
