Mr. Arthur G. Lovejoy, Jr. a longtime resident of Melrose, died Monday evening, April 23, 2007 at the Parkland Medical Center in Derry, NH. He was 100 years old.
Mr. Lovejoy was born January 8, 1907 in Malden, son of the late Arthur G. Lovejoy and Bessie (Nickerson) Lovejoy.
Arthur was a Melrose resident from 1941 until 1998. During WWII, he was a District Purchasing Agent for the Bethlehem Steel Co. Mr. Lovejoy worked for 30 years in the metropolitan Boston area as a Manager and Sales Agent for Wheeling Pittsburg Steel Co. in Wheeling, W. Virginia. He graduated from Richmond High School in Richmond, Maine and attended both the Wentworth Institute and Northeastern University. He was a member of the First Congregational Church and the Bellevue Golf Club. Arthur was a former Malden councilman for Ward 5 in 1932-1933. He was a member of the Fidelity Lodge AF&AM of Melrose, a member of the Kora Temple AAONMS Shrine of Lewiston, Maine and a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Lodge Council Chapter Consistory of Boston.
Mr. Lovejoy was the beloved husband of the late Ethel F. (Lund) Lovejoy.Loving father of the late Arthur G. Lovejoy, III and Paul E. Lovejoy. Cherished grandfather of Paul E. Lovejoy, Jr. of Woburn, Peter K. Lovejoy and his wife, Betty of Derry, NH, Arthur G. Lovejoy, IV and Gregory S. Lovejoy both of Durham, ME, and Ilona Lovejoy Dolaher and her husband, Ed of E. Wakefield, NH. Dear brother of the late Herman, Earl and Evelyn Badger. Also survived by 9 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Service at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main Street, MELROSE, Friday, April 27 at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday 5-8 PM.
