Mr. Arthur F. Shea, a longtime Melrose resident, passed from this life on Friday, October 7, 2011, at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital at the age of 87.
Arthur was born on April 23, 1924 in Chelsea, one of three children of the late Daniel F. Shea and Helen (McGurk) Shea.
Raised "on the line" in Everett, Arthur graduated from Everett High School and received his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Northeastern University, Class of 1952.He proudly served his country during World War II as a radioman in the US Navy.
Arthur raised his family of three sons in Melrose with his wife Barbara.He owned and operated Hill's Office Supplies on Main Street in Melrose from 1981 until 1994.Previously he had worked for Boyd's in Malden for 14 years.He enjoyed his longtime membership in the Melrose Rotary Club, Elks Lodge #1031, and VFW Post 2394.
A devout man, he was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary's Church.Art will be lovingly remembered for his thoughtfulness, friendliness, and sincerity.
Mr. Shea was the beloved husband of Barbara M. (LaFave) Shea with whom he shared 64 years of marriage.Devoted father of Daniel F. Shea, Frederick A. Shea, and Paul D. Shea, all of Melrose.Dear brother of the late Helen E. Shea, Sister Mary Anastasia Shea, and brother-in-law of Mary Margaret "Peggy" LaFave of Medford.Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends will honor Art's life by gathering for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Tuesday, October 11 from 4-8 PM and again on Wednesday morning at 8 AM before leaving in procession to St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 AM.Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
