Mr. Austin C. Fraser, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Concord Hospice House in Concord, New Hampshire with his loving family at his side.He was 82 years old.Mr. Fraser was born in Melrose on March 19, 1927 one of seven children of the late Arthur Fraser and Mary (Campbell) Fraser.
Austin was raised in Medford and graduated from Medford Vocational High School.He honorably served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War.Following his discharge, he established his own business, Austin C. Fraser Plumbing and Heating. A Master Plumber for 36 years, he was self employed for 23 years and then worked for Tufts University.
Mr. Fraser was a member of the Boston Baptist Social Union, past president and member of the Mystic Valley Plumbers Association, Director of the Massachusetts Association of Plumbers, and was on the Board of Directors at the Northeast Vocational School. Austin was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Medford where he belonged for over 60 years.He enjoyed serving on numerous committees and was recently appointed as lifetime deacon.
Mr. Fraser was an avid Red Sox and Bruins fan.He will be long remembered for his devotion to his beloved family and great sense of humor.
Austin was the beloved husband of Audrey L. (MacLean) Fraser with whom he shared 54 years of marriage.Devoted father of Sandra J. Himmelwright and her husband Richard of Wilbraham, Scott M. Fraser and his wife Maria of Wilmington and Joyce F. Smith and her husband Jere of Concord, NH.Dear brother of Stanley Fraser of Forsyth, MO, William Fraser of Weirsdale, FL, Margaret Gardner of Reading, Andrew Fraser of Medford, and the late Arthur Fraser and Ira Fraser.Cherished grandfather of Julie Himmelwright, Jeffrey Himmelwright, Kristin Fraser, Kayla Fraser, Kathryn Fraser, Hannah Smith, and Hillary Smith.Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service in honor of Austin's life will be held at the First Baptist Church of Medford, 29 Oakland St., Medford on Saturday, March 27 at 11 AM. Gifts in Austin's memory may be made to the memorial fund at the Church.
