Barbara A. (Brooks) Doyle

Barbara A. (Brooks) Doyle, of Melrose, and formerly a long-time resident of Lynn, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 3, 2024, at the age of 92. She was born on October 20, 1931. Barbara was one of three children of the late Charles and Anna Brooks.

Barbara grew up in Milton, where she graduated from Milton High School. As a young woman, she created a lifelong friendship there with her dear friend Helen Keady. Her adventurous spirit led her to travel extensively throughout New England with Helen, with whom she shared a bond lasting over seven decades. She trained for administrative work and began her career.

It was during her time working at an insurance company that she met the love of her life, Martin Doyle, whom she married in 1957. They settled in Lynn to raise their family and had four children.

Her devotion to her family knew no bounds. She found great pleasure in being a caring and supportive presence in the lives of her children and her loved ones. Her love extended deeply to her grandchildren who brought her immense joy and fulfillment later in life.

Barbara was beloved by all who knew her and shared a special bond with her brothers and her sisters-in-law, cherishing the connections they built over the years.

Barbara also held her faith close to her heart, finding solace and comfort in the community and values it provided.

Social and outgoing, Barbara was a cherished friend to many, often engaging in activities with friends such as aerobics, knitting, bingo, and beano, which brought her much happiness over the years.

A compassionate soul with a kind heart, Barbara leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. She will be dearly missed by the lives she touched with her warmth and grace.

Barbara was the beloved wife of the late Martin Doyle with whom she shared 55 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Mark Doyle and his wife Dr. Beth Walters of Plymouth, Stephen Doyle and his wife Laura of Wilmette, IL, Peter Doyle of Portland, OR, and the late Suzanne Doyle. Dear sister of Charles Brooks and his late wife Kay and Paul Brooks and his wife Karen, both of Weymouth.  Cherished grandmother of Emily, Claire, and Audrey Doyle, Dr. Seamus Hughes, Aidan Walters-Doyle, and the late Hayley Walters-Doyle.

Family and friends are invited to gather in honor of Barbara’s life during Visiting Hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, on Wednesday, May 8 at 8:30am before leaving in procession to Incarnation Church, 429 Upham St, Melrose, for her Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11am. Interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
