Mrs. Beatrice I. (Cutlip) Berg, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away while resting peacefully at her longtime summer cottage in Buxton, Maine on Sunday, June 8, 2014.She was 89.
Beatrice or "Bea" as she was lovingly known was born in Medford, one of three children of the late Walter A. and Lillian G. (MacKenzie) Cutlip.She was raised in Medford and graduated from Medford High School.She worked for several years before settling in Melrose to raise her two daughters.She stayed at home for several years while her daughters were young, and then returned to a working career at Intercity Homemakers in Malden.Mrs. Berg worked as the payroll manager for many years before her retirement.
Mrs. Berg stayed active with her friends in the local community through events at the Milano Senior Center and Saugus Senior Center.She and a close group of friends were regulars at the line dancing parties, and cherished their afternoons spent at Breads 'n Bits of Ireland in downtown Melrose. Every day, she looked forward seeing her friends for lunch at their table in the back of Breads 'n Bits.
Mrs. Berg spent summers at her beloved family cottage on Bonny Eagle Pond in Buxton, Maine.A place to rest, soak up the sun, and go for casual swim, the cottage was a special place for her.Through several generations, Mrs. Berg always loved being there socializing with family and friends from around the pond. She spent days floating in the water and as the afternoon approached was ready for "happy hour at the pond."
Warm hearted, Bea was a spunky woman and enjoyed a good laugh.She always had an open door for her family members and loved parties with her friends and family. She loved gardening and was an animal lover.
Bea was the beloved wife of the late Douglas F. Berg with whom she shared 35 years of marriage.Devoted mother of Laurel Sheehy and her husband Joseph of Scituate, and Gail Berg of Melrose.Dear sister of the late Lillian "Ellie" Adams, and Carl R. Cutlip. Cherished grandmother of Brian Sheehy of Scituate, Katie Sheehy of Melrose, and Allison Sheehy of Scituate.Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Bea's life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, June 12 from 4-8PM, and again on Friday morning where her Funeral Service will be celebrated at 11AM.
