Belle (Nunley) Maxwell, a resident of Melrose and formerly longtime resident of Marietta, GA, passed away peacefully at Elmhurst Healthcare in Melrose on Saturday, May 25, 2019, at age 95.

Belle was born at home on August 14, 1923 in rural Putnam County, Tennessee. Raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, she was married to Clarence E. Maxwell on March 19, 1947 in Rossville, Georgia. While work for Clarence required relocating several times, Belle remained a dedicated homemaker and mother to her two children.

Belle was a fun loving, feisty woman even into her 90's. As the life of the party, she brought laughter and sunshine everywhere she went. Known for her youthful spirit, she loved getting dressed up and wearing bright colors.She had a love for southern cooking, bingo, going out to eat, playing cards or the slots at Foxwoods. In her free time, she enjoyed crafts, or creating anything using her hands especially ceramics.

After residing in Marietta, Georgia for many years, Belle moved to Melrose to be closer to her family. While always busy, family was the most important thing to Belle. When she was younger, she enjoyed trips through the Smoky Mountains with her family for vacations in Daytona Beach, FL. Later in life, she developed a love for the computer, and enjoyed staying connected to family and friends.

Belle was a strong, vibrant woman whose love for life was an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but forever remembered.

Belle was the beloved wife of the late Clarence E. Maxwell with whom she shared 39 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Linda Rutkowski and her husband Carl of Melrose, and Steve Maxwell and his wife JoBeth of Park City, UT. Cherished grandmother of Lori Haseltine and her husband Eric of Melrose, Scott Maxwell and his wife Alisa of Salt Lake City, UT, Stacy Beharry and her husband Adam of Denver, CO, and Joey Maxwell and his wife Megan of Atlanta, GA. Loving great-grandmother of Grace, Hannah, and Sam Haseltine, Callan Belle Beharry and Kailer Maxwell.Belle was predeceased by her 5 siblings.

Relatives & friends will gather in honor & remembrance of Belle's life for a Graveside Ceremony at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt.Vernon Hwy NW, Sandy Springs, GA on Saturday, June 15 at 10am. Interment will follow in Arlington Memorial Park, Sandy Springs, GA. Gifts in memory of Belle may be made to Wakefield-Lynnfield United Methodist Church, 273 Vernon St., Wakefield MA01880.
