Mr. Bernie McGee, a longtime Melrose resident, passed away at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading on Friday, May 2, 2008 after an illness.He was 77.

Born and raised in Everett, he graduated from Everett High School in 1948.Mr. McGee served in the Army during the Korean War as a medic and held the rank of sergeant.

He was a union electrician and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 103 for more than 50 years.

Mr. McGee was also a communicant of the Incarnation Church in Melrose and served as president of the St. Vincent de Paul Society for several years.He taught CCD classes at Incarnation and served as a lector as well.

An avid fan of the Patriots and the Red Sox, he also enjoyed camping in New Hampshire and Maine with family and friends.He and his wife wintered in Ft. Lauderdale, FL for the last 15 years.

He leaves his wife of 52 years, Helen (Madden) and four daughters: Kathie M. Leveson, wife of Scott, of Laurence Harbor NJ, Virginia I. McGee of Warren, RI, Laura J. Kane, wife of Kevin, of Fairfield, CT and Commander Carolyn R. McGee, USN who is currently stationed in Oak Harbor, WA.He had one grandson, Colin McGee Kane and several nieces and nephews. He is survived by his brother, Francis X. McGee, of Mashpee.
