Betty Flanagan

Betty (Brown) Flanagan, a resident of Atkinson, New Hampshire and formerly of Revere, passed away peacefully in Wakefield on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at age 85.

Betty was born in Lynn on October 23, 1939, one of two children of the late Wesley and Ethel (MacMillan) Brown. She was raised in Revere and married the late John D. Flanagan Sr. Together they raised three sons in Point of Pines, Revere while Betty worked at Transitron in Wakefield and later worked nights in the Parts Department at Eastern Airlines for many years.

Independent and strong, Betty was passionate about living her life to the fullest. She never backed down from getting her hands dirty and often could be found on a ladder making home repairs. Rugged, tough and "hands on," Betty identified with her family's roots in Prince Edward Island, and Scotland. She was self-reliant, feisty, and always up for a challenge or an adventure with her family.

With a love for the outdoors, Betty was happiest surrounded by nature at her home on Big Island Pond in Atkinson, NH. She loved the summers, waterskiing, swimming and boating and the winters spent snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and skiing. She was a longtime member of the Penguins Ski Club in Barlett, NH, and looked forward to longer visits from the grandchildren during the summer. In retirement, she and husband John, moved full time to their NH home, and also spent time in Florida (but only briefly at her request.) She loved being outside, watching the birds, especially cardinals, or walks with her cherished dog, Ranger.

When not in New Hampshire, Betty and John also enjoyed traveling to destinations including Hawaii, Bermuda, California, and Colorado for skiing. Betty will be deeply missed, but always remembered for her love of family, her strong will, and her fierce independence that carried her through. May she rest in peace.

The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to all the neighbors, friends and family who helped honor Betty's wishes to stay at home on the lake over the last many years. Thank you.

Betty was the beloved wife of the late John D. Flanagan Sr. with whom she shared 61 years of marriage. Devoted mother of John D. Flanagan, Jr. of Tampa, FL, James S. Flanagan and his wife Sandy of Wakefield, and the late Kevin Flanagan. Loving sister of the late Eddie Brown. Cherished grandmother of Johnny Flanagan, Matt Flanagan and his wife Danielle, and Katie Flanagan. Proud great-grandmother of Erin and Abigail. Caring aunt of Eddie Brown, Jr, and many other loving nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to gather in honor of Betty during Visiting Hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Sunday, March 16 from 2-5pm, and again on Monday, March 17 for her Funeral Service at 10am. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Gifts in her memory may be made to Big Island Pond Corp, PO Box 297, Hampstead NH 03841.
