Bradford Clough
Leader in Coast Guard Auxiliary at age 73
Mr. Bradford H. Clough of Melrose died at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital on November 1, 2003 after a brief illness.
Mr. Clough was born in Boston, son of the late Walter H. and Lucille (Coaker) Clough.
Mr. Clough graduated from Medford High School in 1949.He then served with the 8th Army in Pusan, Korea from 1951-1953.After the Korean Conflict, he continued his education and became a Heating and Ventilating Mechanic in MIT's physical plant in Cambridge for 33 years.
Mr. Clough became interested in the Coast Guard Auxiliary after taking a boating and safe boating class sponsored by the organization.He joined the Winthrop Flotilla in 1988 and became active as a Vessel Examiner, examining as many as 200 pleasure boats in the season.As he moved up the ranks, he taught safe boating, became Public Affairs Officer, and replaced Coast Guard personnel at the only manned lighthouse in Boston Harbor, enabling them to take leave.He was elected Commander of the Winthrop Flotilla and later Vice Captain of the Division.He was also active in Sail Boston 1992, and through the years received many awards for outstanding service.
Mr. Clough leaves his wife, Deanne (MacDonald), of almost 50 years a daughter Debra Jean Cullen and her husband Pastor Edward of St. Croix, USVI, a son B. Haydn, Jr. and his wife Karen of Danville, NH and Morgan M. and wife, Lynn of Tellico Plains, TN, a brother and sisterKendrick W. Clough and Nancy Ann Butler, both of Florida, as well as 11 grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main Street, MELROSE, Friday, November 7, 2003 at 10AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.Visiting hours Thursday only 3-8 PM.
