Mr. Carl F. Palangi, of Salem, NH, formerly of Melrose, died at his home on Saturday morning, March 28, 2009 following a period of declining health.He was 87 years old.
Carl was born on December 12, 1921 in Malden, a son of the late Carl and Anna Palangi.For 28 years, he was an engineer at the Charlestown Navy Shipyard and he retired when he was 51 years old. Carl, affectionately known as Grampa Carl to his family and friends, was raised and educated in Malden and was a life member of the Elks.He proudly served in the US Army and fought for his country in the Battle of the Bulge.Carl earned his college degree from MIT and he was very active with the restoration of the USS Constitution in Boston.Grampa Carl golfed for many years at Mt. Hood Golf Course in Melrose.
Carl was the loving father of Stephen C. Palangi and his wife Linda of Sanford, NC, Susan C. Meharg and her husband Ken of Melrose, Michael J. Palangi and his wife Kathy of Elko, NV and Richard A. Palangi and his wife Maureen of Nahant. Dear brother of Gladys Enwright of Malden and the late Laura Palangi, Joseph Palangi, James Palangi, Mary Rinaldi, Eileen Holts and Evelyn Wells.Cherished grampa of David, Kristina, Julie, Laurie, Alison, Jesse, Yvette, Melissa, Ashley and Brian.Cherished great grampa of Natalia, Carter, Kyleigh and Hunter. Carl is survived by many nieces, nephews and his treasured caretaker, Ruthann Visco of Salem, NH.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Service celebrating Carl's life in the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE on Thursday, April 2 at 10 AM.Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 - 8 PM.
