Mrs. Carol A. (Campbell) Adams, of Brewster and formerly of Stoneham and Melrose, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, October 21, 2012, at the Daniels House in Reading.She was 85 years old.
She was born on February 25, 1927 in Boston, one of two daughters of the late Edward R. and Ethel M. (Sack) Campbell.She was raised and educated in Melrose and graduated from the Sargent College/Boston University with a degree in physical education.
On August 21, 1948, she married the love of her life Samuel Adams and they settled in Stoneham to raise their family.As a devoted mother of seven daughters and one son, Carol stayed very busy raising her children.She never missed an activity, and was always there to offer her help and loving support.
Carol was known as a great neighbor and friend to all, and loved to express her appreciation for others.Every year at Christmas time, she baked her famous bread and would send out over a hundred loaves to her friends and neighbors.
An accomplished seamstress, Carol made much of her children's clothing.She knit many warm winter afghans, and quilts for her grandchildren.She was a member of the Gardening Club, loved square dancing with Sam, and enjoyed braiding rugs.She also loved animals, especially dogs.
Carol was a member of the First Congregational Church in Melrose for over 70 years and recently received recognition for the longevity of her membership.She lived a life of goodness and believed in the innate value of every person.
In retirement, Carol and her late husband, Sam, built a home on Cape Cod where they had enjoyed many summers vacationing with their family.Carol loved the ocean, the beach, and so enjoyed the serenity and the beauty of the Cape.Every Memorial Day, she and her daughters celebrated each other during a weekend getaway on the Cape, a tradition set in place over 30 years ago by Carol. Her family and friends were most important to Carol and she instilled that feeling in each of her children.
She will be lovingly remembered as the beloved wife of the late Samuel Adams with whom she shared 61 years of marriage.Devoted mother of Marcia O'Neil and her husband Michael of W. Bridgewater.Dear sister of the late Elisabeth O'Connell.Cherished grandmother of Michael G. O'Neil Jr., Meghan O'Neil, Leah Dobbins, Emily Kimball, Zachary Campbell, Sam Campbell, Paul Zurek, Patrick Zurek, Madeline Burke, Michelle Burke, Sammy Adams, Jessica Adams, Daniel McClorey, Meghan McClorey, Sean McClorey, Kay Penney, Claire Penney, Jackson Penney, Molly Barry, Abby Barry, and Thomas Barry.Loving great grandmother of Donovan O'Neil, Brady O'Neil and Tucker O'Neil.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance to celebrate Carol's life for Visiting Hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Friday, October 26 from 4-8 PM, and for her Funeral Service at the First Congregational Church, 121 W. Foster St., Melrose, celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 AM.Interment will be held privately at a later date.In lieu of flowers, gifts in Carol's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
