Carole L. (Lombardi) Barbato

Carole L. (Lombardi) Barbato, a longtime resident of Melrose, died peacefully surrounded by her children at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at age 85.

Carole was born in Boston on September 24, 1936, one of three children of the late Joseph Lombardi and Rose (Stevens) Nazzaro. Raised and educated in Chelsea, Carole was married on November 22, 1953 to William Barbato of Everett. As a young couple, Carole and Bill resided in Everett for several years before moving to Melrose where they raised a family of three children.

Carole remained at home while her children were young to raise the family. She dedicated herself to supporting her husband, children, and later her grandchildren. For several years, she owned and operated the ceramics studio, Blue Dolphin Ceramics in Melrose.

As the wife of a US Army veteran, Carole became very involved at Harold O. Young VFW Post #2394 in Melrose. She served as the Ladies Auxiliary President, District 18 Auxiliary President and was a member of the Massachusetts State Color Guard.

With a flair for fun, Carole was a woman who enjoyed life. She loved going shopping, especially for a new pair of shoes or glittery purse. She loved dancing the Jitterbug with Bill, cooking Italian food, and was an avid fan of the Red Sox, Patriots, and Bruins.

Carole will be deeply missed, but always lovingly remembered as a spunky woman with a creative and fun-loving nature.

Carole was the beloved wife of William R. Barbato with whom she shared 68 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Edward Barbato and his wife Patricia of Tewksbury, Laura Katsos and her husband James of Peabody, and Gina McGinness of Seabrook, NH. Dear sister of John Nazzaro and his wife Donna, and Steven Nazzaro and his wife Rita, all of Peabody. Cherished grandmother of Brian Barbato, Katie Gonzalez, David Barbato, and Arndria and Sean McGinness. Loving great-grandmother of Cameron, Ellie, Leo, Mason, Penelope, and Kaizer. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
