Mrs. Charlotte M. (Chadbourne) Holmes, of West Lebanon, NH, a former long time resident of Melrose, MAdied Friday, July 13, 2007, at her home. She was 102 years old.
Mrs. Holmes was born June 29, 1905 in Saco, ME, daughter of the late Charles Chadbourne and Alfredda (Drew) Chadbourne.
Mrs. Holmes was raised and educated in Saco, ME and graduated from the Thornton Academy, Saco, ME. After graduating, she moved to Boston to work for John Hancock Insurance Company.One afternoon while picnicking in Norumbega Park in Waltham, she met her husband, Palmer Holmes.After their marriage in the early 1930's, they moved to Melrose, MA.Palmer worked for Schrafft's Candy and Charlotte made pies and cookies and sold them to local stores.During WWII, Charlotte worked for National Radio in Melrose, MA.Always wanting to work in the medical field, she then found a job working for Dr. Sullivan of Malden, MA an orthopedic surgeon.Following his retirement she worked for Dr. Micholson, a neurosurgeon at Mass General Hospital, Boston.When he retired in 1982, she then decided it was her turn and she retired at age 77.Charlotte lived in Melrose, MAfrom 1933 to 2001 and then moved to West Lebanon, NH to be near her son, Laurence.
Charlotte was the beloved wife of the late J. Palmer Holmes.Devoted mother of Laurence B. Holmes of Norwich, VTand the late J. Alan Holmes.Loving mother-in-law of Jeanne Holmes of Norwich, VT and Marilyn Holmes of Andover, MA.Cherished grandmother of Karen Schildge of Truckee, CA, Mark Holmes of Louisville, CO, and Jennifer Holmes of San Francisco, CA.Dear Aunt of Jean MacConnel of Roxbury, NY.Also lovingly survived by 6 great grandchildren.
