Mrs. Claire E. (Goggin) Blake, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at the age of 89.

Claire was born in Everett on January 30, 1923, one of three children of the late Arthur M. Goggin and Olive L. (Drake) Goggin.Raised and educated in Melrose, she married Kenneth M. Blake on September 26, 1942 and they settled in Melrose to raise a family.Claire worked for John Hancock Life Insurance Co., then for Cefalo Florist in Melrose, and later for the Melrose Public Library.An avid reader, Claire was a longtime supporter of the Library where she even started a book club while working there.

Claire loved spending the summer months in Ocean Park, Maine where her mother and father had brought her as a child.She found such great joy in the area that she continued to visit every year, eventually bringing her own family to the seacoast town. She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan, enjoyed knitting, but above all else she will be remembered for her love of family and the joy they brought into her life.

She was the beloved wife of the late Kenneth M. Blake with whom she shared 35 years of marriage.Devoted mother of Bonnie B. Rollins and her husband Peter of Hamilton, K. Scott Blake and his wife Mary of Stoneham, Paul A. Blakeof Georgetown, and Diane O. Burke and her husband Jim of Belchertown.Dear sister of Edith Finn of Medford, and the late Melbourne A. Goggin.Cherished grandmother of Joshua Rollins of Arlington, Jacqueline Heath of Gloucester, Jonathan Blake of Stoneham, Ryan Blake of Somerville, Jennifer Burke of Belchertown, and Kerry Burke of Belchertown.Loving great-grandmother of Matthew Heath of Gloucester.Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends will honor and remember Claire's life by gathering for her Funeral Service celebrated at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Friday, September 28 at 10 AM.Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Gifts in her memory may be made to the Melrose Public Library, 69 W. Emerson St., Melrose, MA 02176.
