Mrs. Constance (Beecher) "Connie" Hayes, of York, Maine and formerly a 50-year resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday morning, July 17, 2012 at the Sentry Hill at York Harbor.She was 91 years of age.
Constance was born on May 19, 1921, in Augusta, Maine, one of three daughters of the late Charles F. Beecher and Alice (Brown) Beecher.Raised and educated in Wakefield, Constance, lovingly known as "Connie", graduated from the Chandler Secretarial School in Boston.She worked as a draftsman designing houses for many years.
Connie was gifted in many ways but was an especially talented artist. She loved writing poetry, sewing and painting.Although she took great care of her children, she never quite thought of herself as a homemaker with her many varied interests.She was a bright, capable, and creative woman who cherished her family and beloved miniature poodle, "Cindy."
Connie was the wife of the late George E. Hayes, Jr. Devoted mother of Joanne H. Healy and her husband Paul J. of Andover and Wells, ME, Donna H. Asquith and her husband Robert of Moody, ME, and the late David G. Hayes.Dear sister of the late Claurece Buchan, and Carolyn Montgomery.Cherished grandmother of Matthew D. Healy, Evgeny A. Healy, Olga Prestwich, Eric Asquith, Brendan Asquith, and the late Erin S. Healy.Loving great-grandmother of Brooke Healy, Carter Healy, Samuel Healy, and Lilya Prestwich. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will honor and remember Connie's life by gathering for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Friday, July 20 from 4-8 PM and again on Saturday morning for her Funeral Service celebrated at 10:00 AM.Interment with military honors presented by the US Marine Corps in Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
