Mrs. Cynthia J. (Gray) Hussey, of Melrose, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, July 1, 2016 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, at age 88.

Cynthia was born in Newport, Vermont, one of two daughters of the late Donald R. Gray and Catherine O. (Fielder) Gray. She was raised in Orleans, Vermont, and graduated from Orleans High School where she proudly played All-State basketball. After graduating, she moved to Boston to attend Tufts University where she met her future husband, the late Richard W. Hussey.They were married in 1951, and settled in Melrose to raise three children. Cynthia and Richard proudly called Melrose home for nearly 60 years.

Cynthia was very involved with the First Congregational Church where she and her husband were longtime members. She enjoyed participating in many church events, was a member of Circle 5 for many years, and enjoyed volunteering with Meals on Wheels. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, knitting, or playing bridge.

Sociable with a quick wit, Cynthia loved being surrounded by family and friends. She made friends easily and maintained longtime relationships with those closest to her. When not laughing or joking, she also enjoyed her quiet side by writing poetry.Most of all Cynthia was a devoted wife, mother, and loved being a grandmother. She will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Cynthia was the beloved wife of the late Richard W. Hussey with whom she shared 58 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Gale Putnam and her husband Dale of Newton, NH, Brian G. Hussey of Portsmouth, NH, and the late Gretchen R. Dazelle. Dear sister of Janice A. Palin and her husband Dean of Newport, VT. Cherished grandmother of Gregory, Kimberly, Rebecca, Mallory, Ethan, and Wayde. Loving great-grandmother of Travis, Connor, and Braden. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends will gather in honor of Cynthia's life for her Funeral Service at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Wednesday, July 6 at 11am. Interment in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Contributions in Cynthia's memory may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St, Springfield, MA 01104.
