Mr. Dana C. MacIntosh, longtime resident of Melrose, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2012 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, at the age of 92.
Mr. MacIntosh was born on September 6, 1919 in Winchester, one of 6 children of the late Mary E. (Melville) MacIntosh and Clarence H. MacIntosh.Dana was raised in Arlington and Lexington.He graduated from Lexington High School, Class of 1937 excelling in both hockey and golf.He was elected Captain of the first ever Lexington Golf Team and played semi-pro hockey after graduation.He then served his country as Sergeant and airplane mechanic in the US Army Air Force during WWII.
Dana was a great athlete who enjoyed playing golf, hockey, football and baseball.He was an especially successful golfer.He was named club champion at Mt. Hood in 1957 and when not playing, he enjoyed caddying.Other interests included history, scrabble, crossword puzzles and politics.He loved dancing and music, especially the big band music of the 1940's.He and his late wife Phyllis are fondly remembered as clearing the dance floor when they started dancing.
Dana's working career was as varied as his interests in life.He started at the Ford Motor Co. plant in Somerville where he worked for 5 years.He then worked at General Radio in Concord for 17 years, as a Realtor for several years, and in his retirement began a furniture stripping business in Newburyport.
He was the beloved husband of the late Phyllis R. (Preble) MacIntosh with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.Devotedfather of Gerald "Jerry" MacIntosh and his wife Barbara of Amesbury, Edward D. MacIntosh and his wife Karen of Amesbury, and Joyce A. Patick and her husband Wayne of Melrose.Dear brother of Harriet Streeper of PA, and the late George, Melville, Millie McNamara, and Dot Reynolds.Cherished grandfather of Chris MacIntosh, Jeffrey MacIntosh, Matthew MacIntosh, Nathan MacIntosh, Kendra Patick and the late Craig D. Patick.Loving great-grandfather of Andrew, Annabelle, Adeline, Abigail, Samuel, and Emma. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will honor and remember Dana's life by gathering for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, January 19 from 4-8 PM and again on Friday morning where his Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10:00 AM.Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
