Daniel William Rich
Daniel was born on March 10, 1932 in Bronx, New York one of two sons of the late Benjamin Rich and Agnes (Wilson) Rich.He was raised in the Fenway section of Boston, and graduated from English High School. He served his country proudly in the US Army during the Korean War.Following his honorable discharge, he received an Accounting Degree from Bentley College in Waltham.He worked for 25 years in the Accounting Department at Wentworth Institute of Technology where he met his future wife, Sheila.Dan always said he fell in love the first time he met Sheila, while at work, and for this reason, Wentworth will always hold a special place in their hearts.They were married on December 19, 1970, and settled in Melrose where Dan became a member of the Harold O. Young VFW Post, #2394.
Daniel was a true outdoor enthusiast.He was most happy while hiking the mountains in New Hampshire with his wife Sheila, or finding a good fishing spot along the Cape Cod Canal in Sandwich.He was an avid swimmer, and swam nearly every day at the Melrose YMCA for many years.He also loved music, gardening in the backyard, and walking.More than anything, he loved being at home, puttering around the yard and taking care of his flowers and plants, always looking for something to plant, prune, or cut.More recently, he looked forward to yearly trips to Wells, Maine.He also was a big Boston sports fan, and loved watching any of the home teams.
He was the beloved husband of Sheila J. (Muccio) Rich with whom he shared 43 years of marriage.Devoted father of Wendy J. Rich and her husband Justin Anderson of Somerville. Cherished brother of Evan Rich of Port Richey, FL and his late wife Mary. Loving uncle of Dan Rich of Natick.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Daniel's life at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose during visiting hours on Tuesday, February 18 from 4-8 PM, and for his Funeral Service at the Robinson Funeral Home celebrated on Wednesday at 10 AM. Interment with US Army honors in Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield. Gifts in memory of Daniel may be made to Wentworth Institute of Technology, 550 Huntington Ave., Boston MA 02115, or to All Care VNA & Hospice, 210 Market St., Lynn MA 01901.
