Mr. David P. Choate, a lifelong Melrose resident, died suddenly at home on July 31, 2011, at the age of 64.
David was born on May 30, 1947 in Winchester, one of three children of the late William W. Choate and Mary B. (Burr) Choate.
Raised in Melrose, Dave graduated from Melrose High School and Wentworth Institute with a degree in building construction.In 1969, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp, serving in the Reserves for over 20 years and active duty during the Gulf War.In 1993, he was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant.
For many years, Dave was the owner and operator of Associated Auto Radiator Co. in Wakefield.He was a member of the Melrose Elks Club, an Amvet member of the Harold O. Young VFW Post #2394, and past president of the Melrose Fish and Game Club.
An inspired craftsman, Dave loved working with his hands.He found his passion in an ability to create something in woodworking, masonry and welding.He also loved travelling, swimming, mountain climbing, boating, the Panama Canal, and chocolate ice cream.
David was the beloved husband of Laurel A. (Christensen) Choate with whom he shared 41 years of marriage.Devoted father of Stephen P. Choate of Wakefield, Michael D. Choate of Saugus, and Jennifer C. Bowdridge and her husband Todd of Athol.Dear brother of Jeanne Yanchurak of Janesville, WI and the late Nancy Lavoie.Dear son-in-law of Ruth W. Christensen of Melrose and the late Albert E. Christensen.Also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Service to honor and celebrate Dave's life will be held in the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St, Melrose, on Friday, August 5 at 9 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours on Thursday from 4-8 PM.
