David L. Ryder

Mr. David L. Ryder, of Melrose, passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2010at the Cape Regency and Rehabilitation Center in Centerville.He was 83 years old.

Mr. Ryder was born on November 25, 1926 in Medford, son of the late James L. Ryder and Lee M. (Norse) Ryder.

David Ryder was raised in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1946.He graduated from Wentworth Technical Institute in Boston and was a 39-year employee of Touraine Paint Inc. in Everett.An avid photographer, Mr. Ryder also worked at Eastman Kodak Co. as a production assistant and for several local photography studios.He filmed documentaries of the City of Melrose and enjoyed developing pictures in his own dark room at his home.As a bowler, Mr. Ryder found success at an early age and continued bowling for much of his life.

Mr. Ryder was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Melrose, serving as past president of the Barry Class, Deacon, and Sexton for the Church. In his later years, he worked in Melrose at Friendly's Ice Cream and Sunoco Gas Station.Mr. Ryder also enjoyed camping and spending time with family.Later in life he and his late wife, Dorothy, enjoyed square dancing and touring the 50 states.

He was a member of Wyoming Lodge AF&AM, Boy Scouts at First Baptist Church, Waverly Royal Arch Chapter, Ralley Master and Treasurer of International Fan Trailer Club, AFL-CIO, and past patron of Melrose and Revere Order of Eastern Star.While residing in Largo, Florida, he was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church.

David was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy A. (Wills) Ryder with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.Devoted father of William R. Ryder, Susan L. VanKleef and her husband Harold, Sr., and Judith E. Lybik and her husband John.Cherished grandfather of Martina Ryder, Michael VanKleef Jr., Kristy VanKleef, Matthew Lybik and Rebecca Lybik.

Funeral Service at the First Baptist Church, 561 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, October 7 at 11 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Wednesday from 4-8 PM.Interment in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.Gifts in his memory may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114.
