Diane M. Fazio

Diane Marie Fazio (Maccario) of Malden, MA suddenly and unexpectedly passed away at home on Christmas Eve of 2024 at age 78. The only daughter of the late Charles and Josephine (Ventura) Maccario, she leaves behind her husband Richard Fazio; brother John J. Maccario Sr.; son Michael Fazio and his husband Benn; daughter Christine O’Connor, her husband T. J., and their children Thomas and Taylor; and son David Fazio, his wife Lauren, and their children Joseph and Giuliana; nephew John J. Maccario Jr; and niece Lori Croach (Maccario). Her niece Leanne Harriss (Maccario) passed in 2022.

A tireless advocate for her children and grandchildren, Diane established herself as the loving and caring matriarch of a close and exuberant multi-generational family. She rejoiced in the achievements and successes of her family and shared in their worries and setbacks. She found joy in cooking for her large family and strove to ensure each child, grandchild, niece, nephew, cousin, and in-law left her table with a full stomach and a container of leftovers. She spent her last days preparing Italian Christmas dishes, feeding her grieving family a final time as they gathered on the holy day after her death.

Diane remained a resident of Malden throughout her life, attending Malden High School and working at Mystic Valley Regional Charter School until her retirement. She met her husband Richard in 1973 at the Franciscan Children’s Hospital in Brighton. They married in 1974 and celebrated their 50th anniversary last September. She attended Saint Joseph’s Parish and held a deep, loving faith in Jesus Christ. Diane and Richard have long maintained a second home in Bridgton, ME. Her energetic, inquisitive, and charismatic personality earned her a nearly-boundless social circle in both communities. She turned strangers into acquaintances and acquaintances into friends. She loved and deeply cared for all, and those who knew and loved her will forever feel her presence in their lives.

Diane’s family invites relatives and friends to gather in her honor at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose during visiting hours on Friday, January 3rd from 4 to 7 p.m. Additional visiting hours start Saturday, January 4th at 8:45 a.m. prior to a procession to St. Joseph's Church, 770 Salem St., Malden for her Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Interment will occur at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
