Domenica (Ruisi) Dealtan always said, if the opportunity had been available, she would have become a nurse. A woman with a big, caring heart, and a strong mindset to tackle any challenge, Domenica Dealtan truly was a gift from God and would have made an amazing nurse. After sharing love and laughter at Christmas dinner with her family, she passed away during the early morning on Thursday, December 26, 2019, at age 76.
One of eight children, Domenica was born on September 13, 1943 in Palermo, Italy. The daughter of the late Lorenzo and Giuseppa (Caminita) Ruisi, the family immigrated to the United States when Domenica was 23 and settled in Somerville.
Domenica met the love of her life, Basilio Dealtan while working and they married in 1982. They lived in Somerville, Medford, and most recently, Melrose where she was a devout parishioner of St. Mary's Church. Domenica lived her faith every day, sharing peace and love with her family, neighbors and friends. A mother figure to many, she wished everyone the best in life, and was universally beloved by all.
While short in stature, Domenica had a strong, persistent and determined mind. She never hesitated, never backed down, and freely advocated for herself and anyone in need. Domenica was always willing to help, but tried her best to be self-reliant and independent. A dedicated family woman, she was a loving caretaker to her parents, and never left Basilio's side throughout his life. Later in life, she was supported by the love of her siblings, and her much loved nieces and nephews.
Domenica centered her free time around her family. A great cook, she enjoyed making Italian specialties for all, and as a retired seamstress, she made many blankets and sweaters for her nieces and nephews. Domenica had immeasurable love within her heart that she shared with all who were lucky enough to know her. She will deeply missed, and always lovingly remembered.
Domenica was the beloved wife of the late Basilio Dealtan with whom she shared 29 years of marriage. Cherished sister of Salvatore Ruisi and his wife Franca of Palermo, Italy, Pietro Ruisi and his late wife Cristina of Medford, Guy Ruisi and his wife Anna of Stoneham, Mariarosa Puccio and her husband Giovanni of Medford, Francesco Ruisi and his wife Arlene of Watertown, Eleonora Schena and her husband Gerry of Medford, and the late Fortunata Puccio and her late husband Gaspare. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
