Mr. Donald P. "Don" Carr Jr., of Gloucester and formerly of Holliston, passed away suddenly at home on Friday, June 19, 2009.He was 59 years of age. Mr. Carr was born on April 30, 1950 in Cambridge.Don was raised in Arlington and graduated from Arlington Catholic, Class of 1968.He graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology with an associate's degree in 1970 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Northeastern University in 1973.Following his education, Don worked at Natick Labs as an electrical engineer from 1976 - 1983.He then began a 23-year career for the Department of Defense as an engineer and program manager at Hansom Air Force Base until his retirement in 2006.Don enjoyed living near and being on the ocean.He had a love for boating, fishing and lobstering.He was also a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Gloucester.He was the beloved husband of Dona-Kay (Planta) Carr with whom he shared 33 years of marriage.Devoted father of Donald P. Carr, III and Brian W. Carr both of Melrose.Dear brother of Steven F. Carr of Norfolk, Deborah Carr of Arlington, and Carolyn Hines of NH.Son of Ruth M. (Kelliher) Carr of Arlington and the late Donald P. Carr Sr. Also survived by 2 nieces and 2 nephews.

Funeral Service at the Melrose Highlands Congregational Church, 355 Franklin St., Melrose, Wednesday, June 24 at 1 PM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE, Tuesday 4 - 8 PM.Gifts in Don's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
