Donald C. Emery, age 70 of Melrose, MA and Drakes Island, Maine died suddenly November 6, 2003 at his residence in Drakes Island, Maine. Donald was born in Melrose, MA April 13, 1933son of the late Carl B. Emery and Helen (West) Emery.He was raisedin Melrose, MA and was a life long resident.He graduated from Melrose High School, 1951 and Northeastern University. He was a Pilot in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Donald was an electrical engineer for many years at Avco in Wilmington, MA.He served on the Board of Directors for the credit union at Avco.Donald was a volunteer and team leader for the Southern Maine beach profile monitoring program and also for the Microbial source tracking project, York County, ME.Don was awarded the 2003 volunteer extraordinaire award with the Wells, ME National Estuarine Research Reserve.Donald was a member of the Wells/Ogunquit, ME Historical Society, the Buxton/Hollis, ME Historical Society;Drakes Island Improvement Association;Emery's Bridge Community Association, S. Berwick, ME;the Laudholm Trust;S.O.S - Maine and the New England Historical and Genealogical Society, Boston, MA He was a Piping Plover monitor on Drakes Island, Maine and was actively involved with the endangered piping plover.
Donald was the husband of the late SaraJ. "Sally" (Likins) Emery. Father of Linda J. Jancsy and her husband Richard of Nashua, NH and Douglas R. Emery ofMelrose. Brother of Dorothy L. Sharp and her husband Floyd of Sierra Vista, AZ, Marilyn R. Newall of Dallas, TX and Robert E. Emery and his wife Judy of Laconia, NH.Brother in law of Lucinda Eastman and her husband Robert of Hollis, NH and John Likins and his wifeEdie Keller-Likins of Waterville, ME.Grandfather of Richard M. Jancsy and his wife Christy of Augusta, GA and Carolyn M. Jancsy of Manchester, NH.Great grandfather of Catherine E. Jancsy of Augusta, GA. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
