Mrs. Doris L. Ballweg, a resident of St. Augustine, Florida and formerly of Chelmsford, MA passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2013 surrounded by her family in St. Augustine, FL at age 88.
Doris was born on September 16, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York, one of three children of the late Joseph M. and Sarah G. (Thatford) Lamberson. She was raised and educated in Brooklyn, NY. On August 25, 1944, she married her one and only true love, George E. Ballweg Jr. and as the wife of a military man they lived in Florida, New York, California, Oklahoma, Texas, Tennessee, Illinois, Canada, Massachusetts and Germany and after his retirement in 1970, settled in Chelmsford, MA. She worked as a Home Health Aide for several years and then for Dr. John A. Duggan's Optometrist office in Lowell and Chelmsford for 20 years.
The most important things to Doris were her faith and family. Although she moved frequently, she always became a member of a local church family where she served in many roles such as Sunday School teacher, Deaconess, and on hospitality and missions committees and more recently took on the role of Prayer Warrior. Doris enjoyed being a hostess and her door was always open. She loved cooking, crafts, knitting, swimming, traveling, and was known to always try something new.
She was the beloved wife of the late George E. Ballweg Jr. with whom she shared 63 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Keith R. Ballweg and his wife Diane of Gardner, Nan A. Weaver and her husband Tyre of St. Augustine, FL, Kim B. Johnson and her husband Chip of Lunenburg, and Leigh A. Ballweg and her husband Eric Waaramaa of Melrose. Dear sister of the late Frances Lauer, and Melville Lamberson. Cherished grandmother of Kristin Eck of PA, Lynn Fallon of FL, Tyre Weaver IV of FL, Bryan Weaver of TN, Katie Weaver of FL, Tracey Johnson of FL, Douglas and Daniel Johnson of Lunenburg, Jack, Alyssa, and Faith Waaramaa, of Melrose, and the late Kippy Ballweg. Loving great-grandmother of Nick, Jen, Brian, Kayleigh, Ashleigh, Madison, Joshua, Tyler, Mason, Michael, Noah, Jonah, Kylee, and Mackenzie. Special great-great grandmother of Trinity.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather in honor and remembrance of Doris for visiting hours at the Immanuel Baptist Church, 301 Boston Rd., Chelmsford, on Tuesday, May 28 from 10-11AM followed by her funeral service celebrated at 11:00AM. Interment in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.
