Mrs. Dorothy S. "Dot" (Glasson) O'Connor, a resident of Melrose, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2012 at Brigham and Women's Hospital, at the age of 84.
Dorothy was born in Berlin, New Hampshire on July 30, 1928, one of two daughters of the late Philip S. Glasson and Alice (Hayward) Glasson.She was raised and educated in Berlin, NH and graduated from Boston University in 1950.She received her Master's Degree in Education from Harvard University.From 1966 until her retirement in 1981, Dorothy was an Elementary School Teacher for the Lexington Public School system.
An avid reader and writer, Dorothy was a member of the Women's National Book Association, The Great Books Club, and the Unitarian Universalist Book Club.For several years, Dorothy was on the staff of the Melrose Mirror. In her spare time she also loved knitting, and cooking.
She was the beloved wife of the late Russell A. Berg with whom she shared 21 years of marriage and the late Francis J. O'Connor with whom she shared 34 years of marriage.Devoted mother of Daniel S. O'Connor and his wife Gail of Wrentham, and the late Dennis M. O'Connor.Stepmother of Patricia Allegra and Mary "Peggy" Smith, both of Whitinsville, Gretchen Goldberg of Chelmsford, Peter Berg of N. Attleboro, Dr. Geoffrey Berg of Warren, RI, and the late Anna Parks.Dear sister of Jacqueline G. Williams and her husband Allan of Marlborough, NH.Cherished grandmother of 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends will honor and remember Dot's life by gathering for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, November 1 from 4-8 PM, and for her Funeral Service celebrated at the Unitarian Universalist Church, on Friday at 10:00 AM.Interment in Newton Cemetery, Newton.
