Mrs. Dorothy (Lacey) Throensen of Melrose died July 11, 2003 at the Massachusetts General Hospital after a period of failing health.
Mrs. Throensen was born February 5, 1916 in Gloucester, MA, daughter of the late William A. and Winifred (Bonnell) Lacey.She graduated from Somerville High School and Leslie College, class of 1936 with a teaching degree.She moved to Malden in 1999 after having lived in Melrose for over 50 years.
She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Melrose and served as chairwoman for the annual church bazaar for many years.She was an active realtor in Melrose.She was also involved in PTA, Girl Scouts, Red Cross and Melrose/Wakefield Hospital coffee shop.She loved to cook, sew, knit and play bridge.She had a fervor for knowledge and travel.During her lifetime, she traveled cross country on two occasions and was able to visit 26 countries throughout Europe, parts of Africa and the middle east.
One of her accomplishments was single handedly campaigning before the school committee for the use of blunt nosed scissors for the children of the first public kindergarten in the city of Melrose at the Coolidge School in 1950, and winning.
Wife of the late Carroll A. Throensen. Mother of Karen T. Alley of Melrose and William T. Tronsen and his wife Amy of Bennington, VT. Grandmother of Ronald Alley, Jr., Scott Alley and his wife Lynne, Keirsten Alley-Obayashi and her husband Derek, Theodore, Mark and Adam Tronsen and the late Eric Tronsen.Also survived by great grandchildren, Will Tronsen, Matthew Tronsen, Liam Alley andShannon Alley.
Funeral Service at Trinity Church, 131 West Emerson St. Melrose, Tuesday, July 15 at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
Visiting hours in the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE, Monday, 4-8 PM.
Gifts in her memory may be made to the Memorial fund at the Church.
Interment in Arlington National Cemetery.
