Mr. Earl N. Hansen, a resident of Revere, and formerly longtime of Melrose, passed away peacefully at Care Dimensions in Lincoln, on Monday, February 7, 2022, at age 96.
Earl was born in E. Boston on December 23, 1925, one of nine children of the lateHarold Hansen and J. Viola (Wilcox) Hansen.
Earl was raised in Revere, and, together with his wife Mickey, raised his own family nearby in Melrose. He was a talented engineer who first used his intuitive understanding of electrical devices as a US Marine radio operator in the Pacific at the end of World War II. He came home and realized that college was a much better option than the job his brother got him in the meat and produce markets in Boston at Haymarket. After graduating from UMass Amherst, he worked for many years as an Electrical Engineer at Tracerlab and then LFE in Waltham, and enjoyed golf, bowling, time with his extended family at Revere Beach, as well as travels with Mickey, Richard and Steve to destinations throughout the East Coast and Canada.
In recent years, Earl lived at Jack Satter House on Revere Beach Boulevard, and if he looked out the back window, he could glimpse the very first apartment he lived in as a newlywed. His children, grandchildren and their spouses, and more recently his great-granddaughter, were able to accompany him out along the Beach, where a walk of just a few blocks would attract old friends and neighbors to his side to catch up with the news. He was loved and respected by all who knew him.
Earl's family would like to thank the staff of Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln for the love and care shown to him and to his family in his final week with us.
Earl was the beloved husband of the late Mildred L. (Bell) "Mickey" Hansen with whom he shared 61 years of marriage. Devoted father of Richard E. Hansen and his wife Janet Bersani, Steven C. Hansen, and the late Elaine N. Hansen. Cherished grandfather of Grace Hansen-Dewar and her husband Mitchell, and Ethan Hansen and his wife Melissa Rose. Proud great-grandfather of Pennyroyal Hansen-Dewar. Dear brother of George Hansen, William Hansen and his wife Judith, and the late Harold Hansen, Louis Hansen, Robert Hansen, Christine Havens, Karen Corbett, and Catherine Patten.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, Feb. 10 from 10-11am, followed by his Funeral Service celebrated at 11am. Interment with military honors by the US Marine Corps at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
