Edna M. Macintosh
She was born in Melrose on February 23, 1919, one of three children of the late Frederick Bolton and Florence (Gleason) Bolton. She attended Melrose public schools, and graduated from the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston. She worked as a secretary at the First National Bank in Boston for several years before a chance encounter with Albert D. Macintosh on Old Orchard Beach. They fell in love and were soon married in April of 1945.
Settling in Melrose, Edna was a stay-at-home mom while her children were growing up. With her husband's untimely passing in 1965, she was left with the challenge of raising three teenage children; however, with her inner strength and personal faith she continued to be a loving supportive mother eventually helping all three through college. After her children had grown, she enjoyed her work as an administrative assistant for the Veterans Services Department of the City of Melrose.
In her childhood, she enjoyed summers in Duxbury, and later with her family in Alton Bay, NH on Lake Winnipesaukee. She enjoyed outdoor activities like swimming, skiing, and skating. Edna had a strong sense of faith and became active in the local church communities in which she lived. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Melrose, and supported her children's membership in DeMolay and Rainbow.
Edna was devoted to her family, and friends. She was a loving, kind, sweet, and caring woman who always had an encouraging word to say. She enjoyed painting, gardening, crossword puzzles, bowling, knitting, reading, and music. Edna's artistic spirit will be remembered through her many paintings that her family will now cherish as keepsakes. She loved supporting the Boston Celtics, and her beloved Red Sox. As the daughter of a skilled "voicer" or repairman for pipe organs, Edna had a lifelong appreciation and love for the intricacies of the pipe organ.Well into her 90's, she was known to recite the various organ parts and their functions!
She was the beloved wife of the late Albert D. Macintosh with whom she shared 20 happy years of marriage. Devoted mother of Susan J. Eiserman of Exeter, NH, Alan D. Macintosh and his wife Deborah of Charleston, SC, and Robert B. Macintosh and his wife Lisa of Lee. Dear sister of the late Harold Bolton, and Gertrude Dieter. Caring former mother-in-law of the late Louis E."Skip" Eiserman, and sister-in-law of the late Gladys Macintosh. Cherished grandmother of 5 grandchildren, and 3 great-granddaughters. She also leaves many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will gather in celebration of Edna's life for a Memorial Service at the First United Methodist Church, 645 Main St., Melrose on Saturday, May 7 at 10am. Interment at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
