Mr. Edward "Ted" Cinella, a longtime resident of Melrose, and formerly of Lee, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on January 14, 2013.
Ted was born on January 2, 1943 in Pittsfield, the youngest of three sons of the late Dr. John T. and Mrs. Jane Cinella.Raised and educated in Lee, Ted was a proud alumnus of Boston College, Class of 1964. On June 15, 1963, he married the love of his life, Susan Elaine Vranas, also of Lee.
Formerly of Everett, Ted moved his wife and three children to Melrose in 1977 and became very active in the community.Ted served on the Board of Alderman for the City of Melrose from 1979 through 1995.A proud Alderman, Ted was happy to share his 99% attendance record at meetings.He was a valued member of Sons of Italy where he served as President and of the Republican City Committee where he was currently Vice Chairman and formerly Chairman.
Ted had many interests including a passion for his extensive original Lionel train set which he proudly operated for all interested.A smaller version is displayed during the holiday season in the window at Edward Jones on Main Street.He was a jack of all trades and loved to travel yearly with his family to Disney World and Mexico.He returned to Lee on a regular basis where he enjoyed friends, family, and places he loved to visit.Ted could be found spinning his vinyl records after work, and enjoyed dancing and singing along to all his favorite music, and teaching his children and grandchildren about the music he enjoyed.
Ted worked for Home Owners Federal Savings Bank in the 1970's and 80's and Eastern Bank for over 20 years as Vice President of Mortgage Banking.
Ted was a devoted family man who cherished the time he spent with his wife, children and grandchildren.Tradition was very important to him.He will be remembered as the dedicated husband of Susan E. (Vranas) Cinella with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.Devoted and treasured father of Lisa Cinella of Saugus, Denise Kaliris of Melrose, Steven Cinella of Medford.Respected and loving father-in-law of William Kaliris of Melrose and Mariann Cinella of Medford.Dear brother of John Cinella and his wife Rosemary of Melrose, and Thomas Cinella and his wife Diane of Lee.Dear brother-in-law of Diane Vranas of S.C.Cherished grandfather of William, Dillon, and Matia Kaliris, and Edward Clark, II and Caitlin Cinella.Also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will honor and remember Ted's life by gathering during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, January 17 from 4-8 PM and again on Friday at 9:00 AM before leaving in procession to St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
