Mr. Edward J. Kelter, a resident of Salem, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 after a period of declining health at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.He was 66 years old.
Edward Kelter was born on February 27, 1944, one of three children of the late Edward J. Kelter and Mary F. (Hanchelak) Kelter.Ed was born and raised in Norwood where he graduated from Norwood High School.He proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. For his heroic actions, he received a National Defense Service Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat V, Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal, an Air Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. For many years, he worked in plumbing and heating sales in Watertown for Circle Supply and Watertown Plumbing Supply Co.He received the lifetime achievement award for his excellent customer service while at Watertown Supply.A racing and sailing enthusiast, Ed loved watching Formula 1 Racing and the America's Cup.He also enjoyed building model cars, collecting discus fish and was a dedicated volunteer at the Saltonstall School in Salem.
Ed was the beloved husband of Catherine (Gilardi) Kelter with whom he shared over 16 years of marriage.Father of Shannon Houde of N. Conway, NH and Elias J. Kelter of Salem.Dear brother of Maureen Tilton of Westwood and William Kelter of CA.Grandfather of Cooper Houde and Magnolia Houde both of N. Conway, NH.Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, Saturday, July 31 at 7:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in honor and remembrance of Ed's life at Sainte Anne Church, 292 Jefferson Ave., Salem at 9 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Visiting hours Friday from 4-8 PM.Services will conclude with US Navy military honors.
