Mr. Edward E. Swenson, a lifelong resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully with his beloved wife at his bedside on Friday, September 17, 2010 at the Golden Living Center - The Elmhurst.He was 83.

Edward Eugene Swenson was born on June 25, 1927 in Winchester, one of two sons of the late John Swenson and Susan (Lewis) Swenson.

Ed Swenson was raised in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1945.He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II before graduating in 1954 from Boston University.Beginning in 1956, Ed worked as a self-employed Financial Planner and Insurance Broker in Melrose for many years.He served as President of the Agents Advisory Council for Sentry Insurance Co. and was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church.

A 32nd Degree Mason, Ed was a member of the Fidelity Lodge AF&AM, Aleppo Temple Shrine, Hugh de Payens Commandery, Melrose Council of Royal and Select Masters, Waverly Royal Arch Chapter, and the Scottish Rite Valley of Boston.

Ed was a devoted 37-year member of the Melrose Rotary Club where he served as President from 1982-1983.An avid golfer, he was a member of Bellevue Golf Club and Meadows Country Club in Sarasota, FL.

Ed Swenson was the beloved husband of Anne "Sandy" (Lovell) Swenson with whom he shared 36 years of marriage.Devoted father of John C. Swenson of Providence, RI, Lisa J. Swenson of Portsmouth, NH, and Julie B. Brooks of Pittsfield, NH.Dear brother of the late John D. Swenson.Cherished grandfather of 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Service at the First United Methodist Church, 645 Main St., Melrose on Tuesday, September 21 at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Monday from 4- 8 PM.Interment with military honors presented by the U.S. Army in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.Gifts in Ed's memory may be made to the Bread of Life, 511 Main St., Malden, MA 02148.
