Mrs.Edythe (Solberg) of Beverly, formerly of Melrose, died August 6, 2002 at Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester.
Mrs. Ghen was born May 1, 1922 in Wakefield, MA daughter of the late Frederick G. and Ethel (Keander) Solberg.
Mrs. Ghen was a native of Melrose and Educated at Mass. College of Art, Salem State and Montserrat College of Art.Professionally, she designed greeting cards during high school, worked as an art editor of a magazine, commercial artist, print-maker, teacher, writer, craftsperson.She was an exhibiting member of New England Watercolor Society, Rockport Art Association, North Shore Arts Assoc., Academic Artists, Copley Society, and many more.She painted mainly in watercolor or oil, having won numerous prestigious awards including Yankee Magazine's Sagendorph Award.She was juried into many national exhibits.Her paintings are in private and corporate collections worldwide.She preferred nature for subject matter.Honors include Lifetime Achievement Award at Mass College of Art, and inclusion in Who's Who of American Women.She was one of the early activist for removing smoking from Public places through the American Lung Assoc. group "F.A.N.S.".She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Hamilton.

Ghen, Jr. and his wife Diane Boden of Newburyport and Karen Tormey and her husband Stephen of Pittsburgh, PA.Sister of Helen Holland of Worcester.Grandmother of Barbara Price and Alan Tormey.Step-grandmother of Heather Hazut and Michele Hazut.Great-grandmother of Joseph Price.
Funeral service in the First United Methodist Church, 391 Bay Rd., Hamilton Saturday, August 9th at 11AM, Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
Gifts in her memory may be made to Hospice of the Northshore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA01923 or to the Memorial Fund at the Church.
Interment in North Beverly Cemetery, Beverly, MA
