Eleanor R. Magnuson

Mrs. Eleanor (Rowe) Magnuson of Barnstable, MA, formerly of Reading and
Melrose died peacefully January 16, 2003 at Wingate Nursing Home in Reading.
She was born in Melrose on April 30, 1917 to the late Mildred and Arthur Rowe.
A graduate of Wheelock College, Eleanor taught elementary school for a number of
years before retiring to raise her family.
She will be sorely missed by her loving and devoted husband of 49 years, John
Franklin Magnuson.Survivors also include her five children; Carolyn Chisholm Willcox
and her husband Peter of Fairfield, CT,John B. Magnuson and his wife Betty of
Wakefield, Cynthia L. Kelly and her husband Tom of Wilmington, Peter R. Magnuson
and his wife Betsy of Conowingo, MD and Suzanne (Magnuson) Ryan and her husband
Robert of Reading.Also survived by eleven grandchildren, Peter and Eric Willcox,
Sarah-Anne Willcox Andrews, Beth Ann Magnuson Perullo, Lisa Magnuson McDonnell,
Thomas and Robert Kelly, Kristina Kelly Chirichiello, Mistelle Magnuson and Robert
and Margaret Ryan.Her life was also blessed with 7 great grandchildren, loving nieces
and nephew.
Eleanor was predeceased by her sister, Ruth Schwaibold, her grandson, Jason
Franklin Willcox and her first husband, John Albert Chisholm/
A lifelong Episcopalian, she was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in
Barnstable.Eleanor's varied joys in life were her family and friends, her sewing groups,
her love of animals, singing and playing the piano, listening to beautiful music, working
in the garden and reading.She enjoyed sending and receiving greeting cards and most of
all, spreading her cheer.She was an active member for over 50 years in the PEO
Sisterhood (a philanthropic educational organization for women).
Funeral Service in Trinity Church, 131 West Emerson St., MelroseMonday,
January 20 at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Visiting
hours in the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose Sunday 2-5 PM. Gifts in her
memory may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge
02140. Interment in Wood End Cemetery, Reading, MA
